AA pushes 'Arrive alive' message

28/04/2006 - 16:23:22
Motorists taking off for the May bank holiday weekend have been reminded to think safety first.

The 'Arrive Alive' message is once again being put out by the Gardaí, National Safety Council and AA roadwatch.

Nine people lost their lives this holiday weekend last year and 134 people have been killed on our roads so far this year.

AA's Conor Faughnan hopes there won't be a repeat this year.

He said: “Easter weekend was horrific, one of the worst we've had in years and we would hope and pray that the May bank Holiday weekend will be much better on our roads.

“On average, over the years, we'll have five or six people killed, so please God it won't be that bad in 2006.”
