Freedomland is an opportunity lost

One of those films that should have been much, much better, given the promise of a confused woman (Moore) who reports a car hijack, a misswing son and, perhaps, more than she's prepared to reveal; a cop (Eldard) who goes OTT and closes down a Black neighbourhood in an attempt to trap the kidnapper, causing mounting racial tension; a good cop (Jackson) caught in the middle.

That's a busy plotline, to be sure, but Roth doesn't come close to bringing the elements together, or to getting the best from his talented cast. It's a classic illustration of a good idea mishandled and an opportunity lost.
