Putin: IAEA should continue role in Iranian nuclear issue

Russian President Vladimir Putin today said that the UN nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency, should continue to play a central role in resolving the Iranian nuclear issue and he called on Iran to fulfill its international obligations.

“The IAEA must play a key role… it mustn’t shrug this role from its shoulders” and pass it on to the UN Security Council, Putin said in the Siberian city of Tomsk.

“It’s still too early to run ahead and say, what decision we might take together,” Putin said. “The main thing is … that whatever decision is taken is a consensus decision.”
