Salthill boss steps down

26/04/2006 - 10:51:37
Having successfully led Salthill-Knocknacarra to a first AIB All-Ireland Club Football title last month, Eoin O'Donnellan has ended his reign as trainer/manager.

O'Donnellan, a former vice-captain of the Galway club, took over as Salthill boss in March 2004 having managed the club's Junior team for four years.

Reflecting on his decision, he admitted it was "time to take a break", but has not ruled out a return to management in the coming seasons.

Hughie Heskin, a former player and selector under O'Donnellan, will take on the managerial duties with Salthill due to face Kilkerrin-Clonberne next month in the first round of the Galway championship.

John Joe Burke and Ger Conway will operate as his selectors, although former Mayo footballer Mark Butler, who won a Hogan Cup medal with St Jarlath's College, Tuam, has stepped down from the backroom staff.
