US Embassy orders non-essential staff to leave Nepal
24/04/2006 - 09:42:30The US State Department today ordered all non-emergency US Embassy staff and family members to leave Nepal, an embassy spokesman said.
The “ordered departure” will reduce the staff at the US mission by about 50%, said embassy spokesman Robert Hugins.
The order came after almost three weeks of anti-monarchy protests that have largely paralysed Nepal, and one day before an enormous Kathmandu demonstration that organisers say will bring out hundreds of thousands of people demanding a return to democracy.
