ISME issues upbeat assessment for remainder of 2006

The Irish Small and Medium Enterprises Association (ISME) has issued an upbeat assessment about the economic prospects for the months ahead.

The association said its latest survey of business trends found a high level of optimism for the remainder of the year.

More than two fifths of companies said they were expecting a positive performance, with one-third expecting to increase their workforce before the end of 2006.

Despite this, ISME said there were still concerns surrounding rising electricity, gas and oil prices, as well as labour costs that are rising faster than elsewhere in Europe.
