Bayern on verge of title
Bayern Munich took a major step towards the Bundesliga title today without kicking a ball.
A 2-0 defeat for closest challengers Hamburg at home to Bayer Leverkusen looks to have ended the challenge of Thomas Doll’s side who remain four points adrift with just three games to play after goals from Simon Rolfes and Paul Freier for Leverkusen.
Bayern will now extend that lead to seven points if they win their game in hand with Mainz tomorrow.
Alexander Meier and Ioannis Amanatidis eased Eintracht Frankfurt’s relegation worries with a 2-0 win at Stuttgart while Daniel Alfar earned Kaiserslautern a 1-0 win at home to Hannover that gives the Red Devils hope of staying up.
Wolfsburg did their survival hopes the power of good with a 1-0 win at Arminia Bielefeld and Borussia Dortmund won 2-1 over Nurnberg.
The match between Borussia Monchengladbach and Hertha Berlin finished 2-2.
Duisburg now look doomed after a 3-1 defeat at Cologne who have given themselves a chance – albeit a slim one – of staying up.
