Govt accused of paying lip service to volunteerism
21/04/2006 - 11:35:31The Green Party has accused the Government of paying lip service to the idea of volunteerism in Ireland.
Earlier this month, the Taoiseach called on Irish people to become more involved in community activities.
However, launching its own policy on the issue today, the Green Party said Bertie Ahern's call was empty as it was not being backed by state support.
The Greens is seeking tax breaks and extra holiday pay for people who give up their time to engage in unpaid activities for the benefit of their communities.
