McDowell: Dissidents may be planning more attacks
Minister for Justice Michael McDowell has said dissident republicans may attempt to carry out attacks in the North to undermine the latest attempt to restart the peace process.
His comments follow the arrest of four suspected Continuity IRA members who were allegedly manufacturing a 250-pound bomb in a breaker's yard in Lurgan, Co Armagh, yesterday.
Speaking at the Garda Training College in Templemore today, Mr McDowell said dissidents opposed to the peace process may try to launch bomb attacks in the run-up to the November 24 deadline for restoring the power-sharing institutions in the North.
"Some dissident republicans will think that by engaging in outrages of one kind or another, that they will somehow strengthen the hands of those people in the majority community in Northern Ireland who won't have anything to do with the sharing of power," he said.
