Smith visits Jerusalem's Wailing Wall
20/04/2006 - 14:22:10US actor-singer Will Smith visited Judaism’s holiest site, the Wailing (Western) Wall, and in line with Jewish custom slipped a note into a crack between the huge ancient stones.
Smith approached the wall as a 13-year-old Israeli boy was celebrating his Bar Mitzvah, the Jewish rite of passage into adulthood, by reading a Torah portion.
The boy, Atir Cohen, said he became aware of Smith when he heard girls nearby screaming the actor’s name and running toward the men’s section of the prayer area.
Cohen said he didn’t know who Smith was, but shook his hand and had his picture taken with him.
