107 killed on Spanish roads during Easter break
18/04/2006 - 10:07:47One hundred and seven people died in road accidents in Spain over the 11-day Easter holiday period, the national traffic department said today.
The deaths occurred in 89 accidents between April 7-17. Sixty people were seriously injured in the collisions.
The fatality figure was up by two on last year’s toll, the Madrid-based department said.
Spain recently stepped up fines for traffic regulation infringements in a bid to bring down the country’s road accident mortality rate.
The government plans to toughen its stance by introducing a driving licence points system by the end of the year.
