Cat to miss Kentucky bid
Discreet Cat has been ruled out of the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs on May 6.
Godolphin’s highly-rated colt, who was a 7-1 chance with Stan James to win America’s most famous race, will instead be shipped to the USA and stabled at Belmont Park, where he will be prepared for some of the major races in the second half of the season.
The son of Forestry took his unbeaten record to three with an impressive victory in the UAE Derby last month, having been bought by Godolphin following his debut success at Saratoga in August.
“Discreet Cat is a really promising young horse, but after assessing the situation, Sheikh Mohammed has decided that he would prefer to give him more time,” revealed racing manager Simon Crisford.
“We see him as an important horse for Godolphin both later this season and next year.
“He won’t actually be three until May so we want to give him time to develop. Although we have no specific targets in mind for him at the moment, Discreet Cat will not be running in any of the Triple Crown races,” Crisford told www.godolphin.com.
