Weekend road death toll highest in past six years
18/04/2006 - 07:37:03Eight people have died in accidents on the Republic's roads since last Friday night, making this year's Easter bank holiday weekend the worst in six years.
The latest victim was a man in his 20s who died yesterday afternoon from injuries he sustained when his 4x4 collided with a truck near Tuam in Co Galway on Saturday morning.
The body of a 63-year-old man was also found trapped under his car off a bog road in Co Kildare yesterday morning, while a 40-year-old man died when his motorcycle collided with a car in Co Cavan on Sunday evening and a 26-year-old died when his car struck two stray horses in Co Meath on Saturday.
The other four victims were all Polish nationals who died when their car collided with a lorry in Ballinhassig, Co Cork, on Friday night.
