Government approves new passport laws
18/04/2006 - 14:25:09New passport laws have been approved by the Government.
They include a series of new offences relating to travelling on false passports, and stronger penalties.
The Minister for Foreign Affairs has also taken delivery of some new biometric passports, which will be required for entry to the US from October.
These passports contain an embedded microchip, which holds digital information that can be read at passport controls.
The Government has said that it has no plans to introduce fingerprinting on passports at this stage.
