O'Leary criticises BA surcharge increase

18/04/2006 - 16:00:44
ISEQ-listed Ryanair has responded to British Airways’ increase in fuel surcharges by guaranteeing that it will not introduce the charges.

Michael O’Leary said: Yet again British Airways go for the soft option. This is the seventh separate fuel surcharge British Airways have introduced since May 2004.

“Over the past two years as oil prices have doubled from $35 to $70 a barrel, British Airways’ fuel surcharges have increased 14-fold from £2.50 (€3.60) per sector to £35 (€50.70) per sector.

“This is price gouging of consumers.”
