Dairy industry profits up 4.5% to almost €2bn

The Irish Dairy Board has reported a positive year in 2005, despite EU subsidy cuts and increased competition.

The board said profits in the industry rose by 4.5% during the year to almost €2bn.

The strong performance is largely attributed to the worldwide success of Kerrygold and the Pilgrim's Choice brand in Britain.
