Blades clinch promotion
15/04/2006 - 17:02:32Sheffield United’s promotion to the Premiership was confirmed tonight after Leeds could only draw with Reading this afternoon.
Leeds needed to beat the champions at Elland Road to keep alive the race for automatic promotion.
But, although they led through Rob Hulse’s goal two minutes into the second half, Stephen Hunt’s late equaliser meant the second-placed Blades cannot now be caught.
Neil Warnock’s team, who won 1-0 at Cardiff yesterday, now boast an unassailable 11-point lead over Watford and Leeds with three games of the regular Coca-Cola Championship season remaining.
