St Vincent’s aim for club double
In the second men’s National League semi-final on Sunday, reigning Division One league champions and Dublin Conference winners St Vincent’s play in a local derby against Clondalkin Lakers.
St Vincent’s won the NIVEA for Men SuperLeague title in March and the club is hoping to bring a second trophy back to Glasnevin.
However, Clondalkin Lakers will be tough opponents. They have been impressive in their first year in Division One.
In January, they reached the semi-final stage of the Senior National Cup, where they were beaten by Longford Falcons.
Should Lakers and Falcons get to the final on Monday, Lakers coach Martin Moran will be after revenge.
In the first men’s semi-final at 3pm on Sunday, Southern Conference Champions Team Garvey’s St Mary’s of Castleisland will take on Senior Cup runners-up and North Conference Champions, PV’s Longford Falcons.
Guided by coach Michael Murphy, whose son Michael Jr captains the side, there is a wealth of diversity on the Longford team.
The backbone of PV’s is made up of Rouldra Thomas, Mississippi; Sam Tamargo, Canada; Irish-American Micael Coghlan and Rimus Simklis from Poland.
In the women’s semi-finals earlier on Sunday, Mercy Coolock and UCD, who finished second and third in the Dublin Conference, will kick-start at 11am.
DART Killester, who finished top of the Dublin League, were beaten by UL Aughinish in the quarter-finals.
Limerick’s semi-final will take place directly afterwards at 1pm, when they face the women from St Mary’s, Galwey Auctioneers.
This is St Mary’s third year in succession to play in the National League semi-final.
They are three times Southern winners. Two years ago they made the finals but lost by one point to Mercy Coolock.
At this point they are hungry for a win and will certainly put it up to the Limerick side.
