IFA says milk price cut will cost average farmer €3,000
13/04/2006 - 08:00:49The Irish Farmers Association has slammed Glanbia and Lakeland for cutting the prices they pay to farmers for milk.
The association has described the 6% cut as savage, claiming it will lead to an annual loss of €3,000 for the average dairy farmer.
IFA president Padraig Walshe says many dairy farmers will be forced to reassess their future in light of the development.
"We had a situation last year where our milk quota wasn't filled and, with this blow on milk prices, I'd suggest that the milk quota for the coming year won't be filled either," he said.
