Stamping claim may see O'Driscoll miss semi-final
Scottish side Border Reivers have referred their claim of an alleged stamping by Brian O’Driscoll to the Scottish Rugby Union (SRU).
The club are claiming the Leinster and Ireland centre committed an alleged stamp on Nikki Walker during last Friday night’s Celtic League match at Netherdale.
Reivers’ press officer, Stuart Martin this morning confirmed that any decision on whether or not to cite O’Driscoll will be taken by the SRU.
“We have referred the matter to the Scottish Rugby Union and they have until 5pm today to make the decision on whether or not to cite the player involved,” said Martin.
If O’Driscoll is cited he could miss the Heineken Cup semi-final clash with Munster at Lansdowne Road on April 23.
This would represent a blow to Leinster as O’Driscoll’s partnership with Gordon Darcy is one that will have the Munster camp worried.
Leinster won the game against Border Reivers as their preparations for the Lansdowne Road tie intensify.
Munster have their final run-out before that big clash when they host Edinburgh in the Celtic League at Thomond Park on Saturday (7.30pm).
Of great interest in that game will be the centre partnership that Munster opt for given the continued absence of the injured Barry Murphy.
Tomas O’Leary has started Munster’s last two games at 13 but Mike Mullins along with Rob Henderson will be in the frame for the semi-final clash.
