Grant reveals father tried to kill him
11/04/2006 - 15:14:11Richard E. Grant has revealed his alcoholic father once tried to shoot him dead.
The actor endured a trouble childhood and claims his drink-addled dad would often take his anger and frustration out on him.
However, the 'Withnail and I' star says he knew his father loved him deep down but realised his love turned to hate after he had been drinking.
After the shooting incident, he says his father was full of self-pity and remorse.
"Alcohol changed his character, like Jekyll and Hyde. He wasn't himself when he was drunk", he added.
