Cork get place in Setanta Cup final
Cork City 2 Shelbourne 0
Goals from Colin O’Brien and Neale Fenn, either side of a crucial penalty save from Mark McNulty, booked Cork City’s spot in the final of the Setanta Sports Cup before 5,000 delighted fans at Turner's Cross.
Shels started brightly but it was Cork, scarcely in the match, who stole the lead on 34 minutes.
Colin O’Brien did well to win the ball in a challenge on Jamie Harris, jump quickly to his feet and curl a left-foot shot to the net.
A brilliant save from McNulty in first-half stoppage time from Stuart Byrne dipping 25-yard volley prevented Shels drawing level.
A post deprived Denis Behan of a second Cork goal at one end before McNulty saved a Jason Byrne penalty on 55 minutes.
Fenn then sealed City’s final berth - an additional €60,000 on prize money - when latching onto Behan’s knock down to blast the ball to the net for the killer second goal on 62 minutes.
Shels woe was complete when left-back David Crawley was dismissed for dissent in stoppage time.
