Blini should stay - Meehan
Donna Blini should have no problem in seeing out the mile distance in the Stan James 1000 Guineas at Newmarket on May 7, according to her trainer Brian Meehan.
The Cheveley Park Stakes-winning daughter of Bertolini has yet to race beyond six furlongs but connections are more than hopeful she will stay the trip in the fillies’ Classic.
Having won three of her four starts, Meehan’s charge will go straight to Headquarters at the beginning of next month and is a general 16-1 chance to prevail on her seasonal bow.
“She is in very good form and is working nicely,” said Meehan. “She did a nice piece last week and I was pleased with her.
“She has never been an extravagant filly but her weight is good and she looks well – I couldn’t be happier with her.
“You can never be that confident about staying until you go and do it but she has relaxed and matured a lot over the winter.
“She likes Newmarket and has won three times there and I am pretty relaxed about the trip – I think she will get it fine.”
Meehan is also still planning to send his Dubai Duty Free winner David Junior straight to Royal Ascot despite entering him for the Tattersalls Gold Cup at the Curragh on May 28.
He told At The Races: “The plan is still to go straight for the Prince Of Wales’s but have put him in the Tattersalls Gold Cup to keep our options open.
“Our long-term plan is the Royal meeting, the International or the Irish Champion Stakes and then the Breeders’ Cup Classic.”
