Business group seeks upgrade of rural telecom exchanges

A leading business group is demanding the upgrading of all rural telecom exchanges in order to solve problems with broadband roll-out.

Chambers Ireland has claimed that one fifth of the Irish population may never have access to broadband over phone lines if such a measure is not implemented.

The organisation says the upgrade would cost around €70m and the Government should foot the bill.
