Derek shortens in Derby market

Brother Derek hardened as favourite for the Kentucky Derby when landing the Grade One Santa Anita Derby last night.

Cashmans have cut Dan Hendricks’ charge into 11-4 from 4s for the May 6 contest after he saw off four rivals to score by three and a quarter lengths.

“It was super,” Hendricks told www.thoroughbredtimes.com.

“He just relaxed real well and that’s all he needed to do to get the mile-and-an-eighth – I don’t think distance is any question now.

“We just have to keep doing what he’s been doing and crank him up for the first Saturday in May.”
