Cork rescue top division status

09/04/2006 - 19:11:31
Monaghan 0-08 Cork 1-09

Cork saved their Division One bacon as corner forward Kevin O’Sullivan proved to be their hero at Castleblaney.

The Ilen Rovers clubman hit a 63rd-minute point and followed it up with a scrambled goal moments later, setting up Cork’s first away win in the league in three years.

Monaghan were left trailing 0-02 to 0-05 at the break. Tom Freeman opened the scoring for the hosts but O’Sullivan and Dan Goulding (0-02 apiece) and David Niblock replied for Cork.

The Rebels had defender Noel O’Leary sent off on 52 minutes for a second bookable offence – a foul on Damien Freeman.
