07/04/2006 - 08:18:38
The leader of one of Dublin's main organised crime gangs is reportedly among four people arrested yesterday while apparently preparing a major heist.

Reports this morning said the 41-year-old Finglas man was regarded as the number-one criminal in Dublin's gangland.

He has reportedly masterminded a spate of armed robberies from cash-in-transit vans and ATMs over the past three years.

This morning's reports said the man and three of his close associates were all arrested yesterday while travelling in a convoy of vehicles towards Balbriggan.

A stolen van, two cars and a sawn-off shotgun were all seized at the scene.

Gardaí reportedly believe the four were planning to target a payroll delivery in the Balbriggan area.
