EPA rejects plan to transform illegal dump into landfill
07/04/2006 - 11:48:24The Environmental Protection Agency has refused permission for the construction of a major landfill facility at the site of a massive illegal dump uncovered in Co Wicklow a number of years ago.
Brownfield Restoration Ltd wanted to transform the illegal dump at Whitestown Lower into a landfill.
However, the EPA has instead issued a restricted licence that only allows the company to clean up the site.
The move has been welcomed by Wicklow County Council, which has already ordered a number of parties to "remediate" the dump.
