The number of migrant workers coming to Ireland from the new EU member states in eastern Europe is reportedly continuing to increase almost two years after EU expansion.

Reports this morning said almost 200,000 migrants from eastern Europe had been issued with PPS numbers since their countries joined the EU in May 2004.

An average of 10,200 arrived every month between January and March of this year, which is 40% higher than the 7,200 who were arriving every month in the same period last year.

The vast majority (137,000) are coming from Poland, followed by Lithuania (34,000) and Latvia (17,200).
