February borrowing levels up again

The rate of personal borrowing continued to expand last month, according to the Central Bank.

The adjusted annual growth rate rose to 29.4%, from 28.8% in January, on the back of the figures.

The February credit growth rate equalled the October 2005 peak, which was the highest rate recorded since March 2000. Private sector credit (PSC) expanded by €5.6bn, bringing total PSC to €268bn. Households accounted for nearly 46% of the total.

For the second month in a row, non-mortgage credit grew at a slower rate than mortgage credit, with its adjusted annual growth rate rising to 29%, from 28.5% in January.
