Rain forces Newcastle abandonment
30/03/2006 - 14:52:36Friday’s meeting at Newcastle has been abandoned due to a waterlogged track and areas of false ground.
Clerk of the course James Armstrong delivered the grim news following an unsuccessful afternoon inspection at Gosforth Park.
The situation was left untenable as the course endured around 45 millimetres of rainfall in the last seven days.
“We’ve had to abandon as there has been no significant improvement,” said Armstrong.
“We’ve had a couple more millimetres of rain today and, if anything, things have got a fraction worse.
“It was an easier decision to make than I was expecting but there you go.”
