Ahern to discuss North proposals with SF and SDLP
The Taoiseach Bertie Ahern is due to meet representatives of Sinn Féin and the SDLP to discuss the Irish and British governments' plans for the way forward in the North.
The two governments are expected to unveil their proposals next Thursday.
They are understood to be planning to recall the Stormont Assembly in shadow form without any Executive and then give the main parties a number of months to reach a deal on power-sharing.
The British government will have to change the law to do this, however, as the Good Friday Agreement says the Assembly can only sit for six weeks without an Executive.
Sinn Féin and the SDLP are both opposed to the move, which they believe undermines the concept of power-sharing.
The Taoiseach, has said a definite deadline will be set for the DUP to agree to enter government with Sinn Féin.
