9.3% increase in new car ownership

There were 26,384 new private cars licensed in February 2006, compared with 24,130 in February 2005, an increase of 9.3%, according to figures released today by the Central Statistics Office.

First licensing of second-hand private cars increased by 1,564 (57.9%) on the same month last year.

The number of new goods vehicles licensed was 4,999 in February 2006 compared with 4,457 in the corresponding month last year, an increase of 12.2%.
