PLO ‘ready to implement peace road map’
Speaking minutes after the announcement of exit polls in the Israeli election, the Palestinian Liberation Organisation (PLO) said it was ready to negotiate immediately with the next Israeli government on the implementation of the roadmap peace plan.
Spokesman for Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Nabil Abu Rudeina, said: “We hope to see an Israeli government ready to implement the road map and ready to work toward peace.”
Rudeina, who accompanied Abbas to the Sudanese capital for the two-day Arab summit, said the Arab leaders had recommitted themselves to Arab peace initiative and the road map plan for peace between Israel and the Palestinians.
“We’re ready to go into direct and immediate negotiations to implement the road map,” Rudeina said. “If the Israeli government is ready, the PLO is ready.”
