ISEQ in the red

The ISEQ index of Irish shares slipped into the red this morning, falling 43.64 points to 7967.43 by 11.25am.

All of the financial heavyweights recorded losses. Bank of Ireland fell heaviest, losing 22c off its share value to 15.23 despite the upbeat announcement today of expected earnings for the year to the end to March to be 15% higher than the previous year's 102.3 cent, slightly ahead of expectations.

AIB fell 11c to €19.47, Irish Life and Permanent fell 5c to €19.75 and Anglo Irish Bank slipped 2c to €13.25.

Other losers this morning included food group Donegal Creamer who fell 16c to €4.14, nearly 4%, and low-budget airline Ryanair who fell 5c to €7.80.

Pharmaceutical company Elan rose 18c to €11.75.
