Rembrandt thriving ahead of Aintree

27/03/2006 - 14:22:24
Robert Alner has issued an upbeat bulletin on Sir Rembrandt ahead of his tilt at the John Smith’s Grand National on April 8.

The 10-year-old was last seen finishing a gallant seventh in the Cheltenham Gold Cup, his third appearance in the showpiece event in three years.

However, with his handicap mark on the slide, Alner’s gelding will be able to take his chance at Aintree of an attractive looking 11st 1lb, the exact weight Hedgehunter carried to victory 12 months ago.

“He’s going very well,” said Alner.

“He came out of the Gold Cup in great form and this rain we are having now would have been very welcome a fortnight ago before Cheltenham.

“The big question is we don’t know how the horse will adapt to Aintree.

“He is much better left-handed which is a plus and I would imagine the ground would be fine and the horse is very well,” the trainer told At The Races.
