Brennan booked for Inca mount
Paddy Brennan, one of the rising stars of the National Hunt scene, has been booked to ride the Ginger McCain-trained Inca Trail in the John Smith’s Grand National.
The 10-year-old, recently purchased out of Paul Nicholls’ stable for 110,000 guineas, will be part of a three-strong raiding party on the Aintree showpiece from McCain’s Cheshire base.
He will be joined in the line-up on April 8 by Peter Marsh Chase winner Ebony Light and 2004 National hero Amberleigh House and all three will be attempting to land an unprecedented fifth Grand National for the trainer.
It had been reported that Brennan was in line for the ride on the Nicholls-trained Eurotrek but the jockey’s agent, Chris Broad, confirmed he will for McCain.
“I’ve accepted the ride on Inca Trail for Paddy. It all happened over the weekend so he won’t be riding Eurotrek,” said Broad.
McCain added: “It was finalised this morning and Paddy Brennan will ride him - he’s ridden one or two I think – he’s accepted the ride this morning.
“I like Inca Trail very much and obviously he’s a horse who will be going there with a definite chance, I would imagine.
“All three horses are all right, so we’ll just tick away quietly now. They are all about straight enough and it’s just a case of freewheeling along to Liverpool.”
