Alston ace to drop back in trip
Eric Alston’s Cammidge Trophy third Reverence will revert back to five furlongs for his next run.
The lightly-raced five-year-old was only beaten three-quarters of a length and a short-head at Redcar on Saturday, but Alston believes the horse is at his best over the minimum distance.
In seven career starts he has four victories to his name, all over five furlongs, with his three defeats coming over the longer trip.
“He came out of the race grand,” said Alston.
“He’ll go back to five furlongs now though.
“I think he got the extra furlong fine but Kevin (Darley) thinks we will spoil him if we keep him at six for now. He just shows us so much speed.
“He might go to Newbury or Nottingham next for a conditions race.
“He is by Mark Of Esteem so you would think he would stay at least six and you couldn’t say he definitely didn’t stay, but Kevin just thinks we will be better off going back to five.”
