Newest TV channel signs content contract

Ireland’s newest TV station today signed a 10-year year content contract with the Broadcasting Commission of Ireland.

Channel Six will launch on Thursday, with its 12 hours of viewing boasting a range of entertainment programmes aimed at the under 35 age group.

Interactive music, magazine-style programmes, movies, drama and comedy will be among those on air, along with local programming on topical matters exploring all aspects of modern Irish culture including fashion, music and film.

The station will broadcast initially for 12 hours per day Monday – Friday, and 15 hours on a Saturday and Sunday.

Pat Donnelly, executive chairman of Channel 6, is looking forward to offering viewers and advertisers a homegrown, exciting, new national alternative by opening up the Irish television market.

“Viewers can now expect a vibrant programming schedule that showcases the best of international and local talent and critically, offers viewers an attractive, Irish choice from Thursday evening onwards,” he said.

Distribution will be via NTL and Chorus analogue and digital platforms.

“We are delighted to sign today’s contract with Channel 6,” Conor J. Maguire, BCI Chairperson, added.

“The station will offer its viewers a specifically targeted alternative entertainment source and will add to the diversity of services currently available. We wish Channel 6 every success in the years ahead.”
