'Death' keeps Doherty away from gig

25/03/2006 - 10:05:33
Troubled rocker Pete Doherty's band Babyshambles failed to turn up to their scheduled gig at London venue Koko on Thursday night after a band member reportedly suffered a sudden bereavement.

The show was cancelled at short notice when one of the group received the sad news and had to fly to Tenerife, according to MTV.

Hundreds of fans, who had not been warned of cancellation, expressed their frustration on the band's website. They have been awarded free tickets to the band's next gig as compensation.

Frontman Doherty was in court hours before the planned concert to face a string of drug possession charges. He pleaded guilty at the London hearing and will be sentenced next month.
