Greens stance on corporate donations debated at conference

At the Green Party Annual Conference in Kilkenny the issue of corporate donations is shaping up to be a contentious one.

The Party has announced that it will begin accepting donations on-line shortly to help with funding its General Election campaign next year.

A motion on ending the ban on corporate donations will be debated today.

Party Leader Trevor Sargent says accepting such financial contributions could send out the wrong signals.

“I do hope that we decide to do something which it is not going to be possible to interpret as being beholden to any one company or fundraising source and that is a challenge for any party like the Green Party,” he said.
