North’s ethnic minorities disinterested in local politics

Research by the North's Electoral Commission has found widespread political disinterest among ethnic minorities.

The commission said just 40% of people from minority groups were registered to vote and one-third didn't even know how to register.

Of those who are not registered, one-quarter said they had no interest in politics, while one-fifth said they had no knowledge of the local political scene.
