Vanderlin ready for Lingfield test

21/03/2006 - 14:10:48
Andrew Balding’s globetrotting seven-year-old Vanderlin is in fine form ahead of a tilt at the Listed Doncaster Mile at Lingfield on Thursday.

The gelding was last seen finishing fourth in a Grade Two race at Woodbine in Canada last October after filling the runners-up berth in a Grade One at Keeneland, and will face six rivals in the mile contest.

“It’s slightly different surroundings than for his last four runs,” said the Kingsclere handler.

“He’s very well, though, and he ran some very good races out in Canada and North America last year and he appeared to stay a mile well out there.

“He is in very good form and his season has to start somewhere. We are slightly limited as to where we can go with him but hopefully he should run a big race.”

His rivals include recent Nad Al Sheba winner Azarole, trained by Stan Moore, Kandidate, Bravo Maestro, Lord Mayor, Kindlelight Debut and Moayed.

“I think Azarole is in pretty decent form and Kandidate is useful on his day,” continued Balding.

“It’s a tight little race but he’s very well. He’s run at the course before and handled it great.”
