Taylor: Cup win can boost league form

21/03/2006 - 08:48:17
Maik Taylor is hoping FA Cup glory can provide Birmingham with a confidence boost to aid their number-one priority of Barclays Premiership survival.

Birmingham will be looking to reach the semi-finals for the first time in more than three decades when they tackle Liverpool at St Andrews tonight.

Steve Bruce’s side would appear to have little chance on current form with City third from bottom of the Premiership and Liverpool having netted eight times against Fulham and Newcastle in their last two games.

But Taylor points to City’s creditable record against the Reds of two wins and two draws in their last four league meetings as a reason for having hope despite a horrendous injury list.

The Northern Ireland number one said: “The cup has been a welcome distraction from the league.

"We have done well in the competition so far and we want to look to progress to the semi-finals.

“It would be an unbelievable achievement. If we can keep winning games in the cup, hopefully we can take that into our league form.”
