‘Wage restraint needed to protect competitiveness’
20/03/2006 - 11:59:35The Small Firms Association is calling for wage restraint during 2006 in order to protect the competitiveness of Irish businesses.
In its spring statement, the Association says the outlook for the year is positive, with unemployment expected to remain low and the economy expected to grow by 4.75%.
However, it said wage increases were outstripping productivity and this was not sustainable in the longer term.
The SFA is also seeking measures to ensure that increases in local authority charges are linked to performance targets and kept in line with inflation.
