FAS workers vote for strike action over decentralisation
20/03/2006 - 13:36:03SIPTU members working for FAS have voted in favour of strike action over the planned decentralisation of their jobs.
The positions are due to be moved from Dublin to Birr, Co Offaly, as part of the Government's decentralisation plans.
However, only a handful of the 400 staff have applied for the transfer.
The Government has insisted that decentralisation will only be implemented on a voluntary basis, but SIPTU claims FAS is breaching this by limitin g recruitment and promotional opportunities to workers who are willing to move to Birr.
