ISEQ in the red

The ISEQ index of Irish shares lost much of the ground it gained earlier in the week, falling 35.46 points to 7922.36.

This came following the announcement that the annual rate of inflation increased to 3.3% in February, up from 3.0% in January, the highest in three years.

All the financials recorded losses. Both Bank of Ireland and Irish Life and Permanent fell 25c to €15.00 and €18.15 respectively. AIB fell 27c to €19.01 and Anglo Irish Bank fell 15c to €13.54.

Elsewhere eircom fell 2c to €2.14.

Construcftion company CRH made one of the day's few gains, rising 67c to €28.82.
