Mayo's McDonald back in training

15/03/2006 - 17:54:30
Crossmolina forward Ciaran McDonald has returned to training with the Mayo senior footballers.

The 31-year-old McDonald, who has not played for his county since last August's All-Ireland SFC quarter-final defeat to Kerry, took part in last night's session in Ballyvary.

Mayo's captain last season, McDonald may face a fight to reclaim his favoured centre half-forward position with Ballina's Ger Brady currently excelling on the '40' for Mickey Moran's side.

McDonald could make his playing return in Sunday's NFL Division 1A visit of Cork to Castlebar, probably off the bench. Mayo, who have full-back and captain David Heaney available after his successful appeal against suspension, will be hoping to make it five league wins out of five against the Rebels.
