Union seeks law to allow unions vet foreign contractors
15/03/2006 - 10:27:04The Technical, Engineering and Electrical Union is seeking new laws that would allow trade unions to vet foreign contractors working on projects in Ireland.
The TEEU also wants measures to ensure unions can inform people employed by these contractors of their work entitlements.
The union is making the call as it prepares to meet directors of the Polish firm under investigation for paying its workers less than one-third of their legal entitlements.
The employees were working for ZRE Katowice, which is involved in the refurbishment of the ESB power plant at Moneypoint.
