Newey plans for Red Bull success

14/03/2006 - 10:47:02
Design guru Adrian Newey has revealed he is at Red Bull for the long haul as he attempts to turn them into Formula One winners.

Newey designed championship-winning cars for McLaren and Williams but opted to push his skills to the limit by taking on the Red Bull challenge.

The Milton Keynes-based squad have begun just their second year since Red Bull bought Jaguar’s Formula One team.

Last season brought an encouraging 34 points and seventh in the constructors’ championship but Newey expects a long-term battle if Red Bull are to reach their goals.

“I am expecting more than three years,” he said.

“There is no point going beyond a three-year contract but the goal is more long-term than the immediate three years.

“Red Bull really is a serious team. The Red Bull budget is not the biggest in Formula One by a long way but the works teams tend to be slower in how they spend the money.”
